I think that a continent the has semi linear paths starting from a 5 or 6 different beginner villages and ended in the center of the map would be a great way to create a a great variety of cultures and players.
Some things I think might occur because of this are:

Distinct dialects in the chat speak of characters.

Room for various summons.

Culturally based weapons and clothes.

Characters who wish to collect (summons, beasts, weapons, spells, armor) would have to travel back through all the paths

Greater variation in playing styles in at higher levels.


And for expansion dungeon leading to another continent would be easy enough. Also it still leaves room to open new areas on each path.

I think it would be a a very interesting experience when two equal level players meet for the first time in the center of the continent and see the the many differences.

Alex and I were talking about this the other night. We came to the conclusion that it would be a kinda cool idea to have each region have a different system of government, and a different player based ruler. The game would then take on two different levels of play. I think that this may be important for PvP.

Each culture would have its own way of determining its current leader. Wealth would be an important factor: there would be some exponential growth on the cost of holding the power. Leaders would probably not be able to keep the power for more than a week. So, top players would be able to take on leadership, and not hold it indefinitely, because they would get their funds drained.

Leaders would recieve massive bonuses, be allowed to access things other players could not, unlock some summons, and max out their rep for regions. In addition they would be able to declare war on other cultures and gain control of regions that have certain resources; i.e. a rare diamond mine, or even small towns.

Ideas for cultures?

Democracy: based on votes of other players. Players get some sort of bonus to vote. Votes may be bought from other players, so campaigning is an option. Rule would be set to a week.

Military Based: A weekly tournament? Players could buy other players to join armies with them. If players are online when tournament happens, all their stats are added to the factions power. If not, maybe 33%.

Banking Culture: Center culture, NPC or guild based?
