I'm wondering if there will be enchanted items or something similar. Like a pair of pants that increases speed or a helmet that increases magic. Also you might want to include scarfs, bandannas, necklaces, or just weird add ons like fairy wings. |

Well, yeah. I was planning on there being a great deal of variation in the items. These are just classes used for grouping of equipment. I'm thinking that each class has certain defined armor classes that they may wear, and there will be a great deal of items within that armor class.
Maybe even a suffix/ prefix based system like diablo? |

Well, imo I would go armor/clothes, 1 or 2 use item slots (sword, spell book, grapling hook, bomb, etc like out of zelda), and 1 or 2 accessory slots. This would make the number of items to manage, design, etc far less.
Lets say you had a town called Thornbriar (I'm going to just make some terms up for this...), you could have a bladed shield called a Thorn Briar Buckler provide +3 defense and 2 deflection (again, just making up stuff) and provide protection to a nasty effect in the region, perhaps having your speed halved while walking through the thick high weeds in the Bloodnettle Forest.
A pair of Stormbravers Greaves could let you move through stormy conditions and moving water with greatly reduced penalties as well as increasing your speed by 3 and give 5 defense to electic attacks. |
