I'd suggest having fewwer stats and then having feats/skills that grant unique bonuses and modifiers. As well, stats could be based in part on items; for instance stealth could be based on your speed and terrain plus how much noise your items make(so running in chainmail is never going to be stealthy, and soft moss or carpet isn't going to be as loud as marble floors or brittle bones).
One stat I think never makes much sense is charisma/charm. It is in a lot of games and it always seems like how you look wouldn't affect chopping a guy in two or make somebody explode with a spell. |

Ah, necro! Nice to see you here!
I totally dig the idea of having terrain type bonuses. In fact that was one of the first things I thought about when conceptualizing the game.
And I agree about the simplification of character stats. I wanted to go for something similar to diablo or wow, where a few base stats + equipment bonuses control a number of statistics. |
